Benefits Of Sending A Child To An Independent School

July 25th, 2010

In recent years, more parents have become concerned that their children are not receiving a quality education in public schools. The high rate of teen drop outs, an increasing rate of school bullying, budget cutbacks, and overcrowded classrooms, has resulted in many parents seeking an alternative to the public education system. One educational alternative that is now becoming a popular choice for parents seeking a better education for their children is Independent Schools.

Sometimes referred to as a private school, an independent school is a school that is not run by the government. That is, it is not dependent on funding from tax payers. Funding can come from a variety of sources such as: individual monetary donations, charitable contributions, tuition fees, corporate donations, and special endowments. Sometimes there can be government funding such as in the form of funding grants. It is governed by a board of directors.

Choosing the right education for their child is the most important contribution parents will make to their future. Parents who are considering sending their children to a school should learn about the following benefits that these schools have to offer:

Independent Schools Offer A High Quality Education

An independent school will provide outstanding education as its focus is on preparing students for university and life. Personalized teaching is of the utmost importance. Teachers create and implement lesson plans that challenge students and encourage them to excel. The educational tools include the highest quality text books and learning equipment that makes use of the latest technology. As well, teachers provide hands-on learning through diverse projects and assignments. The teaching environment is one that encourages students to ask question and engage in learning conversations.

Independent Schools Offer Quality After School Programs

An independent school offers students more than just a text book education. A school can provide excellent and high quality extra curricular activities such as music clubs, drama clubs, sports teams, sports activities, and social out reach programs. The inspiration behind these programs is to instill such qualities as confidence, quality character and integrity, important values, respect, and leadership skills. The goal is to help students develop a strong moral compass so that graduates will become productive members of society.

Different Types Of Independent Schools

Today, there are a variety of different people from all walks of life with various backgrounds. To meet the unique needs of students, there are a variety of different types available. This includes: military schools, religious schools such as a Christian school, special needs schools, boarding school, day schools, and more. The school that a parent selects for their child will depend on their child’s particular needs.

Independent Schools Have Quality Teachers And Teaching Methods

Research has revealed the positive impact personalized teaching has on a student’s performance. Teachers in a quality private school keep parents up-to-date on their child’s progress. As well, they will have meetings with parents to discuss educational goals and various learning objectives. Teachers at independent schools are passionate about their job and their impact on students so they design lessons to help student achieve. They know the students on a personal level and are dedicated to helping them excel. Teaching methods can include: encouraging questions and class discussions, classroom participation, sharing ideas and experiences, working together in groups, and more. Students feel comfortable in a warm and inviting learning environment while participating in challenging and rewarding educational programs.

More parents are becoming frustrated with the public education system and are choosing Independent schools. Independent schools prepare students to lead productive and fulfilling lives in a world that is rapidly changing. They go beyond the public education standards and cultivate and nurture the skills necessary to excel in the education field as well as in life.

Toronto private schools is committed to educational excellence and development of the character and individual abilities of students. When seeking a CESI accredited member Riohmond Hill school, consider Holy Trinity School.

CPA Exam Glossary

July 17th, 2010

Wonder Wheels Glossary Certified Public Accountant (CPA) is a title granted to United States accountants who have qualified by passing the Uniform Certified Public Accountant Examination (UCPAE). The UCPAE is created and scored by the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants. In most states, a CPA is the only one who is licensed and permitted to provide to clients attestation (including auditing) opinions on financial statements. In Arizona, Kansas, North Carolina and Ohio, while the CPA designation is restricted and can only be used by those who passed the UCPAE, any accountant can audit. If a person who has passed the UCPAE * has not finished the on-the-job experience requirement or * has previously met that requirement but since then has not completed their continuing professional education that person is designated “CPA Inactive.” The majority of states allow only a person licensed as a CPA in their state to use the designation. Therefore, a CPA from California is not called a CPA in Illinois until that person meets the state requirements of Illinois for a license or certificate. Texas is even more restrictive. Only a CPA in Texas can be addressed by the designations “auditor” and “accountant.” The only exceptions are: * a non-resident of Texas who is a CPA in another state AND * meets the requirements to practice in Texas as an out-of-state member of the CPA firm or practitioner.

Exam: The Uniform Certified Public Accountant Examination (UCPAE) is often referred to by this abbreviated title of “the CPA Exam.” To become a Certified Public Accountant (CPA), a candidate must pass the CPA Exam. The American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) constructed the exam to be rigorous enough to protect the public interest by ensuring that only very qualified people can become licensed as Certified Public Accountants (CPAs). Failure rate is high (54%). While the test is written by the national organization, it is given in multiple cities within each of the 54 U.S. jurisdictions (the 50 U.S. states and four U.S. territories). (See “Jurisdictions.”) Since the test is exactly the same, a candidate for sitting for the exam at any location for which they are approved. Thus, a college candidate from Rhode Island who meets the qualifications for the CPA Exam in Texas (where their employment is and where he/she wishes to be licensed) can take the test in Rhode Island. The scores are sent to Texas and then on to the candidate. Each jurisdiction has its own requirements a candidate must meet before they can sit for the exam. For more information, see “CPA Exam Application Process.”

Exams: The CPA Exam is divided into four parts, also called four sections. The sections are: * Auditing and Attestation * Business Environment and Concepts * Financial Accounting and Reporting and * Regulation. The American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) constructed the exam so that at maximum all four parts take 14 hours to complete. (There are candidates who finish in less time.) A candidate does not have to sit for all four parts at the same time but does have to pass all four parts within 18 months. The exams are given at Prometric centers during the months of January, February, April, May, July, August, October and November. Exam Prep: This is an abbreviated term for “CPA Exam Preparation.” Preparation entails studying for the exam with a combination of study tools and materials which fit the candidate’s learning style and budget. Study materials may include online textbooks, printed textbooks, video lectures by university professors with printable lecture slides, electronic flash cards, printed flash cards, professor mentoring, candidate discussion groups, private discussion groups, diagnostic tests and an electronic test bank of 5,100 past CPA Exam questions with answers and rationales. For more information, see CPA Exam Preparation. Exam Preparation: According to AICPA, only 46% of those who take the CPA Exam each year pass it. Thus it behooves a candidate to use CPA Exam Preparation materials to learn the scope and complexity of the topics which are tested on the exam. Study materials include but are not limited to: professor mentoring, professor video lectures with printable slides, professor-authored textbooks, Personalized Exam Planning, Course Manager, Private Study Groups, Proficiency Questions, Past Exam Questions; Simulations, Electronic Flash Cards, Exam Tutor, Diagnostic Exams, Performance Metrics, Simulated CPA Exams, Online Library and CPAexcel Final Review. Exam Preparations: CPA Exam Preparations consist of two separate categories: * Study Materials: According to AICPA, only 46% of those who take the CPA Exam each year pass it. Thus it behooves a candidate to use CPA Exam Preparation materials to learn the content, scope, and complexity of the topics which are tested on the exam format as well as the manner in which the test is delivered. Study materials include but are not limited to: professor mentoring, professor video lectures with printable slides, professor-authored textbooks, Personalized Exam Planning, Course Manager, Private Study Groups, Proficiency Questions, Past Exam Questions; Simulations, Electronic Flash Cards, Exam Tutor, Diagnostic Exams, Performance Metrics, Simulated CPA Exams, Online Library and CPAexcel Final Review. * Steps to complete the administrative application process: This is a multi-step process in which the candidate must be very careful to read carefully while filling out the application documentation. The steps are: * Do you have questions about the application process, the documents you need to submit, the fees you must pay, or your jurisdiction’s eligibility requirements? Contact the organization to which you submitted your application – either the Board of Accountancy in your jurisdiction or an organization representing the Board. 1. If the candidate has questions about * the documents needed during submission * the fees to be paid and to whom * eligibility requirements for that jurisdiction, the candidate should contact the Board of Accountancy (or the agency representing that Board) in which they wish to practice as a CPA. 2. Send in a Completed Application and Documents along with the Application Fees. Make certain that the name on the application matches the identification which will be presented on test day. If the application is in the name of “Cindy Jones” but her driver’s license states her name as “Cynthia Jones,” she may not be allowed to test. 3. Pay attention to details: in certain states, a candidate will send their application materials to the Board of Accountancy in that state but in other jurisdictions, all applications are sent to an organization designated by that Board and to the central processing location to that organization. For instance, a candidate who wishes to be a California CPA will send their application directly to the California Board of Accountancy in Sacramento while a candidate who wishes to become a Connecticut CPA will send their application to central processing organization in Tennessee. Fees differ: a wise candidate rereads the fee schedule to make certain that they are sending in the correct fees. 4. Send in your official college transcript if you are a first time candidate. If you were educated outside the US, the Board may require that your transcripts be evaluated by an agency which the Board has approved. There is a list on the Board’s website. 5. IF the candidate needs special accommodations for mental or physical challenge as covered by the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), the candidate must ask for accommodations at the time of the application. The Board must approve special accommodations. 6. After the Board of Accountancy or its agency representing it approves the application to sit for the exam, the Board or agency will send the candidate a Notice to Schedule (NTS). The NTS tells the candidate that they are eligible to take the exam parts for which they applied. The candidate needs the NTS to: * Contact Prometric to schedule the exam. * To present on test day at the test center as part of the identification verification process. Name on the NTS must match the identification presented exactly or the candidate risks not being admitted on test day. 7. If the candidate’s name on the NTS and the identification do not match, contact the Board of Accountancy or its agency to correct this before test day. 8. The NTS has an expiration date. After that point, the candidate must reapply and potentially pay additional fees. Be aware of this expiration and schedule the test ahead of that date. 9. Once the candidate has the correct NTS, the candidate should contact Prometric to select the best test day and testing center location. 10. When the exam is offered: The CPA Exam is given during testing windows, the first two months of every quarter. These months are: January, February, April, May, July, August, October and November. 11. Where the exam is offered: Since the same CPA Exam is given at every testing center, the candidate does not have to physically sit in a testing center in the jurisdiction in which they desire to become a CPA. For instance, a university candidate in Illinois who has been hired by a Texas CPA firm can apply to Texas and when approved, sit for the test in Illinois as a Texas candidate. When the candidate passes all four sections of the exam, the candidate is then a Texas CPA after licensure. 12. Who administers the CPA Exam? Prometric administers the giving of the CPA Exam in all 54 jurisdictions. Contact the Prometric Candidate Services Call Center at 800-696-2722 or www. Prometric.com to schedule the exam. 13. For Guam, refer to the NASBA testing center. If you applying to the Guam test center, read the directions in the Candidate Bulletin. On Test Day: * Arrive at least 30 minutes early at the test center to complete the sign-in process and the survey. By completing these steps before the examination, this does not infringe on the allotted examination time. * Bring the NTS and two forms of identification. See the Candidate Bulletin to ascertain acceptable forms of identification. Test centers may have different rules so do not assume that everything is the same from Portland, Maine to Portland, Oregon. * Know the rules about the launch of the examination and do not violate them. For instance, the candidate has 10 minutes to complete the first steps of the test. If the candidate does not complete the steps in those 10 minutes, the candidate may be barred from continuing the test. * Understand what is considered acceptable behavior.

Exam Study: There are four sections or parts of the CPA Exam: Auditing and Attestation (AUD), Business Environment Concepts (BEC), Financial Accounting and Reporting (FAR), and Regulation (REG). According to AICPA, only 46% of those who sit for the CPA Exam pass it so it benefits a candidate to study for the exam. With a study tool such as CPAexcel’s Exam Planner, a candidate can quickly determine how much time he/she will need to study to be prepared to pass by a certain date OR by entering the number of hours per week they can study, they will quickly see when they will be prepared to sit for and pass that exam section. CPAexcel’s software designers collated the actual study hours logged by those CPAexcel candidates who have passed the exam and created formulas which can predict the intersection of study hours with exam success. With Exam Planner, a candidate can learn how much time studying is suggested to pass any given section of the exam. Exam Study Materials: Ideally, study materials should break down large blocks of knowledge into small, Bite-Sized LessonsSM which can be completed in about 30 minutes. A lesson should include study materials which address the needs of various learning styles: professors video lectures will appeal to auditory learners while professor-authored study texts will appeal to visual learners. A candidate should select those study materials which support the candidate’s learning style. Study materials include but are not limited to: professor mentoring, professor video lectures with printable slides, professor-authored textbooks, Personalized Exam Planning, Course Manager, Private Study Groups, Proficiency Questions, Past Exam Questions; Simulations, Electronic Flash Cards, Exam Tutor, Diagnostic Exams, Performance Metrics, Simulated CPA Exams, Online Library and CPAexcel Final Review.

Exam Study Course: A CPA Exam Study Course should prepare the candidate to pass the CPA Exam. The study course can be as non-technical as simply studying from a textbook or can be interactive and high tech by featuring daily contact with a mentoring accounting professor who responds quickly to the candidate’s posted questions and comments on a specific lesson. While certain study courses expire in 12 months (such as Becker) or 18 months (Roger CPA Exam), CPAexcel never expires: CPAexcel sends unlimited course updates and allows unlimited course repeats until the candidate passes the CPA Exam. Exam Testing Window:-when, where 1. When the exam is offered: The CPA Exam is given during testing windows, the first two months of every quarter. These months are: January, February, April, May, July, August, October and November. 2. 3. Number of cities in which the exam is offered often depends on the size and population of the state. For instance, Connecticut has three testing centers: Glastonbury, Hamden, and Norwalk. California has 19 testing centers from Alameda to Van Nuys, San Diego to Santa Rosa. Texas has 17 testing centers but four are in Houston and three are in San Antonio.

Review Course: “CPA Review Course” is synonymous with “CPA Exam Study Course” and several other terms. It is a method of organizing and teaching the information which will be covered on the CPA Exam in a manner which encourages retention and application by the candidate. In CPA Review Course, the candidate will review information learned in the college classroom as well as concepts learned on the job. In addition, material will be presented and taught which may not have been covered in either venue, thus giving the candidate a full appreciation of all the information which will be covered on the CPA Exam.

Review Courses: CPAexcel offers six different courses which meet the learning styles and the budgets of candidates. Each course is structured to appeal to a particular learning style with multiple study tools which present and then reinforce key concepts within a lesson lasting about 30 minutes. Review Course Comparison: When comparing CPA Review Courses, the consumer should consider the following: * Does the course give free updates and free course retakes? If not or if there are a number of qualifications before getting a free course retake, the consumer should the potential for added costs for these additional services. For instance, the cost of a Becker course nearly doubles when four course retakes. * Does the course provider clearly post their passing rates? CPAexcel does: 87% of CPAexcel’s students pass the CPA Exam-nearly double the national average! Other courses, like Becker, simply state that their passing rates are twice the national average but they are not specific about what that is. * What is the retail price for a complete top-of-the-line course? CPAexcel’s best course retails for $1690 and it includes a final review; Becker charges $2890 and makes the candidate pay extra for Final Review. * Is there a student discount? CPAexcel discounts their courses 20% to college students on the undergraduate or graduate level. A top-of-the-line course with Professor Mentoring has a student price of $1352. * Does the provider offer a choice in the elements included in each course? CPAexcel offers six different courses, combining their study tools in various ways, making the course adaptable to the candidate’s budgetary needs and learning styles. Exam Requirement: The main requirement to becoming a CPA is passing the CPA Exam. Each jurisdiction has different regulations which must be met before the candidate is allowed to sit for the Uniform CPA Exam. Exam Requirements: Each of the 54 jurisdictions has its own set of requirements which a candidate must meet before being given permission to sit for the exam. As of March 2010, most jurisdictions required that the candidate complete 150 academic hours (or about five years of college or university academic work) prior to sitting for the exam. One state, Connecticut, allowed candidates to sit for the exam having completed 120 hours (a bachelor’s degree) but required that the person complete the additional 30 semester hours before the person was granted a license to practice. One state will allow years of work to suffice for a college degree. Only a few states allow for testing and licensure with only a bachelor’s degree. Most states require a work component as well in terms of number of years of work experience in the accounting field.

Exam Review: This is a study course to prepare and pass the CPA Exam. An exam review may be divided into four sections to mirror the CPA Exam itself so that there is a section for AUD, BEC, FAR and REG. An excellent review course will include study tools which support the student’s learning style, whether it is a visual learning style, auditory learning style, kinetic learning style or any combination thereof. Exam Reviews: There are a number of providers for CPA Exam Reviews. Some, like CPAexcel, hire university professors to mentor and author their study materials while other companies simply hire instructors who hit “Play” and let the lecture play out. CPAexcel publishes new textbooks twice a year while another course updates their books only once each year, which means those students are possibly paying for textbooks which are not up-to-date enough to study for the exam. Exam Review Questions: There are several categories of questions on the CPA Exam. These are: Multiple Choice Questions Task-Based Simulations (long format in 2010) Task-Based Simulations (short format in 2011) Written Communications in AUD, FAR and REG in 2010 but none in 2011 Written Communications in BEC in 2011 (There are none in 2010.) Research Question in 2011 in AUD, FAR and REG. (There are none in 2010.) The weight of the questions will change from 2010 to 2011 with multiple choice questions in 2010 carrying less weight in 2011 in AUD, FAR and RED, dropping from 70% of the score to 60% and Simulations doubling to 40%.

Public Accountant: Certain states offer a designation which not so rigorous in its qualifications. This is called the Public Accountant (PA). Many states no longer accept new applicants for this designation. As of 2010, only 10 states continue to offer the designation to new qualified members. The National Society of Public Accountants is their national association.

At CPAexcel, the countdown to 2011 has begun. Because CPAexcel is the only CPA Exam which never expires, you can order it now and study for the current 2010 CPA Exam. If you have not passed all four sections by the end of 2010, you will have access to the new 2011 CBT-e content and functionality for free!

Georgia Bulldogs – Herschel Walker’s Impact

July 7th, 2010

Nobody would argue with the notion that the University of Georgia Bulldogs football program has had a continuing impact on the game of college football. With an impressive record of wins and losses – nearly two wins for every game they have lost in the last century-plus of football, the Bulldogs occupy a place among the sport’s best. From their position in the SEC, the Bulldogs have enjoyed many winning seasons, though recent years have not been among their best. Still, they are routinely ranked in the football polls, and always provide formidable competition for their opponents. Many of the great players in football history have won the Bulldogs’ uniform and played in their Athens, Georgia stadium – one of the largest stadiums of its kind in the world – in front of the more than ninety thousand fans that regularly fill it to capacity. One memorable Georgia player in recent decades was the Heisman Award winner of 1982 – Herschel Walker.

A pure runner

When Herschel Walker arrived on the campus of the University of Georgia, he made an immediate impact. Despite being a freshman running back, Walker ran over, around, and through the competition that season to set freshman records for rushing and help the Bulldogs to an undefeated season. His freshman performance garnered him so much attention that he managed to get enough votes for the Heisman Trophy that he came in third that year – a rare and almost unheard of feat for an underclassman at the college level. That year’s Bulldogs went on to play Notre Dame in the 1980 Sugar Bowl, with their victory over the Fighting Irish earning them a consensus national championship. After two more impressive seasons with the Bulldogs, Walker finally broke through in the Heisman voting and won the award in 1982 as a junior.

The junior professional

With his junior year at an end, Walker felt that he had nothing left to prove. Though the existing National Football League rules of the time forbade any team from drafting players until they had completed their senior season, Walker decided to find another way into the pro ranks. It made sense to him from both a personal and financial sense – after winning a national title as a freshman and the Heisman as a junior, it was unlikely that his stock in the NFL draft would be elevated by a return for his senior season. In fact, an injury could have made him less attractive.

For Walker, the situation could not have been any better, as Dallas was one of the few teams for which he had expressed an earlier desire to join.

His legacy

When people hear Herschel Walker’s name today, they most often think of his Heisman year and his skills as a runner. However, his off-field victories were just as important in the evolution of the game. In fact, every underclassman that enters the NFL draft early has Herschel Walker to thank for paving the way.

Penn State Nittany Lions

July 7th, 2010

The base ball team for Pennsylvania State University was known as the Penn State Nittany Lions. There uniform colors were blue and white. Even though base ball was not the strongest sport, they were able to participate in the NCCA Division I FBS and the Big Ten Conference.

Being big on other sports such as football, this did not stop the Penn State Nittany Lions from creating major league legends that we will all remember.

Tom Lawless is a well-known infielder for the major league. He was born in Erie, Pennsylvania on December 19, 1956. He played first on July 15, 1982 for the Cincinnati Reds. Aside from the Reds, Lawless has also become a part of the Montreal Expos, the St. Louis Cardinals and the Toronto Blue Jays. His final happened on July 4, 1990 where he played for the Blue Jays.

Lawless became famous during a time where it is very difficult to achieve a home run. Nevertheless, he managed to establish a record of 24 runs, in which all he has batted in. He has also maintained a batting average of 0.207 and made 2 home runs.

Another famous player that was slightly older was Cliff Heathcote. He was born on January 24th, 1898. He was known to play the role of an outfielder. His debut match was for the St. Louis Cardinals on June 4th, 1918. During his career he changed three teams which included the Chicago Cubs, Cincinnati Reds and the Philadelphia Phillies. He played for each team for 4, 8, 1 and 1 years respectively. His final appearance for the Phillies was on September 24th, 1932. He had achieved some remarkable figures during his career.

Heathcote’s first major league game was for the St. Louis Cardinals. His debut game happened on June 4, 1918. After playing for the Cardinals for a brief period of time, he decided to play for other teams. He played for the Chicago Cubs for 4 years, for the Cincinnati Reds for another 8 years, and lastly, for the Philadelphia Phillies for a year. His final game happened on September 24, 1932 where he played for the Phillies. Sadly, Heathcote passed away exactly seven years after his last game (September 24, 1939), at age 41.

Another famous pitcher that made it to major league from the Penn State Nittany Lions was Ed Klepfer. Ed was born on March 17th, 1888. He played his first debut match for the New York Yankees on July 11th, 1914.

Klepfer had maintained a very impressive record which includes an earned run average of 2.81, a pitching record of 22-17. He also has a total strike out of 165. His statistics were definitely way beyond the standards of his time, thus making him a very memorable and significant player in major league industry.

The rich historical record of Penn State Nittany Lions only proves that the team and its players have made such an influence in major league baseball. Thus, with proper training and discipline, the Nittany Lions can rise to glory once more.

Clemson – One Of The Greatest Sports Programs

July 2nd, 2010

The University of Clemson baseball team which takes part in the Atlantic Coast Conference is also known to represent the Clemson University in the NCAA Division I college baseball. Having had only two coaches since its commencement, their present head coach happens to be Jack Leggett.

From the 1970’s, up until the 1990’s, Bill Winheim had been the coach of the Clemson baseball team and it was only in the year 2000 that coaches changed with Jack Leggett taking over. The Clemson home ground Stadium which can hold up to 6217 fans and spectators is known as the Doug Kingsmore Stadium and is said to host all the games played by the Clemson baseball team.

Clemson which has always been consistent with their wins, have an impressive 40 wins in the last 21 games played by them. After leaving the Clemson University, a number of their players have been able to join Major League. The colors of their uniform are northwestern purple and burnt orange.

Brian Barnes, Jeff Baker, Jerry Brooks, Kris Neson and Mike Brown are a few among many great names that played for them. While some names are better known than others, it is worthwhile, finding out a few details about these famous players.

Scott Winchester was one of the first to ever go to major league from Clemson University. He was born on April 20th, 1973. He played as a right handed pitcher. His debut for Cincinnati Reds took place on September the 8th, 1997. His last appearance for the Cincinnati Reds was on August 9th, 2001. By the time he had retired he had settled for stats that did not show a true reflection of his performances. He had a win loss ration of 3-8. His earned run average was 5.42 and strike outs were at 55.

Ken Vining was another popular player who played as a pitcher. Being born on December the 5th, 1974, Ken made his debut for the Chicago White Sox on May 23, 2001. His last appearance for the Sox was on July 5th, 2001.

Unfortunately however, his career statistics too was not a true reflection of his capabilities which showed an earned Run average of 17.55 with a mere 3 strike outs.

Playing as a relief pitcher, and born on 19th August 1977, Matt white made his first appearance on 27th May 2003 playing for the Boston Red Sox. He continued his career as a player with several other teams and was known to have played also for the Washington Nationals, Yokohama Bay Stars, the Uni-President 7-Eleven Lions and the Seattle Mariners.

According to his career statistics Matt had a win loss ratio of 0:2 and an earned run average of 16.76 with only 3 strike outs. He too was another player whose on field performance was much better when compared to his statistics.

Atlanta Braves 2010 Projections

July 1st, 2010

When October comes around this year, one of two things will happen, first the Braves will be sitting at home watching the playoffs, or two they will be giving Bobby Cox the best send off as a manager that they can with a World Series win.

Now if the previous years are an indicator as to what kind of season to expect then there will be a long year ahead of them. Now there is a little bit of hope, that the Braves can try to aspire for in this the final season for Bobby Cox. Now is not a good time to be a fan of the Braves. There are several reasons for this and here they are.

This is a team that at one point was almost as routine to go to the post season that you could schedule it, then something happened and the team fell into a black hole and has not recovered since. There are a few players that will try making a contribution to the team in their efforts, but the place that needs the most work is the bullpen.

This lack of leadership will lead to the team not having a starter that can hand off to a closer and rely on them to close the game out. There will be a lot of innings this season that will end with the Braves losing due to a bad pitching game from the mound. Unless something is changed quickly, there will be yet another long season to endure in Atlanta this season.

Now if the Braves are looking for a way that they can make up for the lack of a decent pitcher, then they can look at the possible aspects when it comes to the outfield. The braves do have a lot of issues that are in the outfield. These issues can be fixed if the proper amount of work is placed in the fixing of these issues. If the issues are addressed, then there will be a lot of players that can fill the spots that are lacking in the outfield. If these issues persist, then expect it to be a long year for the Braves.

Now there is a glimmer of hope when it comes to the infield, there are a few players that appear to be working out in the infield positions, this will be the only saving grace for the team. This will be the items that will help to make the team a lot more powerful when it comes to scoring runs and winning games.

I don’t want to go so far as saying that the Atlanta Braves are a bad baseball team, there is just a lot of work on the team that no amount of spring training will be able to work off. There will need to be a small miracle when it comes to the Braves reaching the Post season, if all else fails then maybe Bobby Cox can strap up and show these young players how the game is supposed to be played.

Alabama Crimson Tide Football And “Bear” Bryant

July 1st, 2010

Since playing their first college football game in 1892, the Alabama Crimson Tide football program has become one of college football’s most accomplished. With thirteen national titles and eight AP or Coaches consensus championships to its credit, the Alabama program has consistently remained among the elite of NCAA football powers. Nearly half of the program’s national championships were earned during the tenure of one Alabama coach – the legendary Paul “Bear” Bryant, who coached Alabama teams from 1957 until his retirement after the 1982 season.

The Bear turns it around

When Bryant arrived in Alabama from Texas A&M, the program had been suffering through a period of four straight losing seasons. The Bear’s arrival seemed the spark that the Tide needed to turn the program around, and that year’s team posted a record of five wins, four losses, and one tie. Bryant’s unique style of coaching and masterful discipline of the sport provided the foundation that the program needed to enable the players to begin to function as a team and ascend toward their potential. In just his fourth campaign with the program, Bryant had the Crimson Tide back into national championship contention. In fact, they went on to win the national title that year, in Bryant’s first trip to a bowl game with his new team. It was a feat that the team would repeat often during his tenure as coach, as the program became one of the most dominant in the NCAAs. Beginning in 1961, and ending with the 1966 season, the Crimson Tide managed to accumulate 60 total wins, with only 5 losses. Over that same period, they won three national championships, four SEC titles, and were invited to six bowl games. In two of those seasons, the team went undefeated. Alabama football was back!

The next decade

During the following decade, the Alabama Crimson Tide would win all but two of that decades SEC titles, while garnering three more national championships. During a 1971 game between the Crimson Tide and the USC Trojans, Bear made what would later turn out to have been one of the more historic decisions in Alabama football history. Bryant decided to start the very first black player, John Mitchell. Not only did Bryant’s team win that game, his decision to allow the first African American Alabama player to serve in a starting role on the team changed ‘Bama football forever.

The end of Bryant’s coaching career personified his team’s success as he left with a victory in the 1982 Liberty Bowl. At the time of his departure, the Bear had the most victories of any coach in history, at 323. Sadly, his retirement from coaching preceded his death by mere weeks. To this day, his quarter of a century with the Crimson Tide program is still viewed by most coaches at all levels as one of the most inspiring periods of football success in history.

On Becoming A Registered Massage Therapist In Ontario

June 3rd, 2010

When desiring to become a registered massage therapist in Canada, there are some things one needs to know. First, one need complete coursework of approximately twenty two hundred hours of class and hands on training. Although, unlike the United States, therapists who complete such training only have to take an additional online course from each province in order to provide massage services across Canadian provinces.

As such, a new organization which identifies as the National Massage Therapy Alliance has replaced the old Canadian Massage Therapist Alliance. An alliance which requires that each therapist complete training through an affiliated training program in the province in which one intends to do such business. In addition, each therapist must be a successful graduate from a curriculum which is recognized by the province in which one has attended school.

Although, as many individuals who have ever attended any form of massage training can tell you, especially in Canada, one must continue completing coursework over time. In addition, if one wishes to work in relation to different styles of massage and techniques, one can do so by completing additional coursework over time. At which time, one can hold on their registration while attempting to learn and work with different massage techniques.

With regards as to where to obtain such coursework, there are a variety of programs offered in several styles of massage all across Canada. So, if one can pinpoint an area in which one is interested in providing services, even if only until one completes additional coursework, one can have more flexibility in doing so.

For, although massage therapy can be an excellent field, one must complete many hours of coursework to become a registered massage therapist. For example, in Ontario, the requirement is twenty two hundred hours of coursework, followed by continuing education before one can become registered. This is to help prevent individuals from working without a license and running the risk of a lawsuit against the organization with which one is registered.

Also, as of April 1, 2009, the Canadian First Ministers have declared that professions such as massage therapy be regulated and massage therapists be allowed to work across all provinces. Therefore, if one has trained in one province, chances are with a short online course and testing, one can work in all provinces within Canada. To this end, although one may want to attend training in their home area, one is no longer limited with regards to which provinces in which one can provide such services.

Therefore, if one plans to become a therapist in Ontario and is already registered, additional coursework is required periodically to keep both a license and registration in tact. Therefore, as long as one has no grievances against others, is professional in demeanor and has permission, there are a number of ways in which one can make money at the same time as training to become a registered massage therapist.

With regards to costs, massage school, while not as expensive as in the United States, is not cheap. This is because massage therapy is self-regulated. In addition, it is a self-supporting career in which one generally finds their own clients with which to work in such fashion. However, the government only allows funding for fees of public council members. Therefore, the college attempts to keep fees for attending such programs as low as possible in comparison to other schools.

In addition, one may want to attend a school which operates on a non-profit basis as fees range from $500 to $700. Whereas, in the neighboring United States, one can spend a great deal more money on such training. Therefore, it is a great profession for individuals living in Canada.

Therefore, although one may have to spend a great deal of time in training to become a massage therapist in Canada, it is something many decide to do. As, by becoming a registered massage therapist, one can retain their independence, work the hours which one desires to work and can help people in the process. Something, not a lot of other jobs available today seem to offer, especially with the recent economic downturn. To this end, massage therapy can be a great field to work in for the right person who desires to offer such healing services.

Getting Your Online Marketing Degree From Home

May 31st, 2010

If you’re looking to start your own business, marketing comes highly recommended for a very long list of reasons. In marketing, you will never go hungry. As long as there are human beings, there will be sellers, and as long as there are sellers, there will be advertisers. With an online marketing degree, you can get into a business that is always growing, and that is practically recession proof.

There is simply a mind boggling degree of opportunity out there for a creative, smart, ruthless marketing professional. You can forget all that stuff you’ve heard about needing the right connections to succeed in this industry. Forget it. This is the age of the internet, and if you want work in your chosen industry, all you have to do is go out there and take it. This is especially true of marketing, where you’re always in demand.

In particular, studying internet marketing isn’t a bad idea. Obviously, it’s all about web advertising these days. Between viral videos and social networking, every company wants an online presence, but the truth is that most big business people are of an earlier generation and aren’t really all that savvy. This is where you come in. If you’re familiar with the web, how social networking works, how viral videos spread, you already know more than most of these guys do about marketing on the internet. It’ll really start to feel like you’re being paid to waste time online after awhile.

Every business, big or small, needs advertising if they hope to reach the top of their industry. Start out small, build a small portfolio of clients, and work your way up. Take your little niche of the industry by storm and be aggressive.

If you’re wondering how you’re going to land these big business clients… Well… You’ll be a marketing expert by the time you have to worry about that, so you can cross that bridge when you get to it.

Marketing is one of those industries that will never go broke. No matter how the economy is doing, people will need advertisers. In fact, much of the time, companies wait until a recession to really get aggressive with marketing, as that’s when people are cautious about who they support.

Study online if you don’t have the time to enroll in college. It doesn’t take very long, and it’s relatively inexpensive. This way you can keep your day job, but in the meantime you’ll be learning a way to make more money than you had ever dared to expect to make.

How much money are we talking about, exactly? Well, put it this way: Have you ever seen a homeless person with a cardboard sign reading “Will direct ad campaign for food”? If you know all there is to know about marketing, you’ll never go hungry.

Okay, maybe we’re making it sound too easy. The fact is, you can only go as far in marketing as you’re willing to push yourself. You need to be creative, smart and always able to see the angles that other people don’t see. This is how you give yourself an advantage in any industry, especially marketing.

If you need to be a marketer that is successful, , then there is an online marketing degree that you should look into. There are accredited online degrees that many individuals have completed straight from their own home.
